The March for Meals celebration commemorates the historic day in March 1972 when President Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 to include a national nutrition program for seniors 60 years and older. This legislation supported the rapid growth of the nationwide network of senior nutrition programs – commonly referred to as Meals on Wheels.
For 50 years, GCM has provided food, clothing, uplifting social interaction, and emotional/Spiritual support in our community. Greer Community Ministries will celebrate March for Meals throughout the month of March. Each year our goal is to increase awareness of GCM services (Food Pantry, Clothing Closet, Senior Dining, and Meals on Wheels). You can help us accomplish this by finding creative ways to support our mission.
GCM prepares and delivers an average of 330 Meals on Wheels lunches each weekday.
Each year GCM serves clients in our food pantry and clothing closet, monthly giving out the equivalent of over $16,000 worth of food and over $6,000 in clothing.
